 What is a Kettlebell?
Basically, it is a cannonball with a handle! Kettlebells have been referred to as “your hand held portable gym”. If I were to use one word to describe kettlebells it would be: RESULTS!
If you are serious about your training, whether you are a sportsperson, martial artist, home executive, or someone who relies on training and fitness for their job – Fire fighter, police, armed services, this is the tool for you!
I have been doing resistance training for over 30 years now and I honestly thought I had a good handle on weight training techniques and programming – until I started using kettlebells.
Kettlebells are portable, meaning that you can take one with you if you need to travel for work or go on holiday (mind you, if you’re flying, the cost for booking them in would be fairly hefty – buy one when you get there!). this also means that they can be easily stored at home and can be used easily at home. I have clients who use them inside the house, in the garage, in the yard and at the park!
They are flexible – meaning you can use them to develop strength, power and cardio vascular endurance. You decide were you want (or need!) to make gains. For example if you need to lose weight and only have 10 minutes to spare every day, then a kettlebell program can be designed for you to maximise your gains in this time commitment.
“I absolutely loved it – particularly the cardio. I hate running – this is so much more enjoyable. I have increased my knowledge and had a lot of fun!”
Michelle Heggie
Kettlebells will also help to develop flexibility and body awareness. This aspect makes kettlebells ideal for rehabilitation, especially shoulders, knees and backs. In fact world expert researcher and back injury consultant Dr Stuart McGill, has been researching kettlebell training and recommends kettlebells for rehabilitation of back injuries.
Kettlebells are also the best tool for injury prevention, work conditioning for those with active occupations or prehabilitation for athletes and sportspeople. The reason being that the centre of gravity of a kettlebell is off centred. This forces supporting and stabilising musculature to activate and fire in the correct patterns and sequences. Kettlebells are fantastic for increasing shoulder stability and flexibility.
“Any serious athlete, martial artist or someone who needs to rehab after being
injured should look at doing this workshop. It’s real training, simple methods without being overly complicated or needing large amounts of time or equipment.”
Phil Kirkman
However, kettlebells are not a ‘Magic Pill’ and require some effort, commitment and motivation to get results. All I want is for YOU to be committed to yourself and to your training. As it is only when you commit to your training, that you will get the results.

“I have found my general strength, flexibility and form has improved dramatically since using kettlebells. My cardio fitness and body shape have both improved also. I was happy with the 9.5 cm overall measurement loss so it was nice to see results in the scales too!I've lost 1.5kg in 2 weeks! I’m looking forward to long term results and benefits from using kettlebells. Thanks Dave!” Rachel McLean

“The Kettlebell seminar has fitted very naturally into our training for both general and High Performance members. The theme of “training the movement” vs. training a muscle works perfectly with a sport that requires strength and power in a dynamic motion! Weights’ training is a great asset to any sport-person but Kettle Bell training is the icing on the cake for developing dynamic power into Martial Arts movement. I recommend Dave J as his background enables him to associate the KB technique to Martial Arts sports given his thorough understanding of the Biomechanics.”
Sensei Chris Gower (4th Dan Kyokushinkai)
“There is no way this stuff can be learned from a book or DVD alone! Even when I thought I had it sussed, Dave was correcting my technique and I could see and feel how much more effective the exercises are with better technique.” Jill Gower
