The End Goal of a Fully Integrated and Progressive Rehabilitation Program is to:
Return the injured person to sport, work or daily duties with full function in the shortest time possible.
If Rehabilitation is Inadequate You are:
- Prone to reinjury of the affected area
- Incapable of performing at a pre-injury level/ standard
- Predisposed to injuring another part of the body due to muscular compensation
The Keys to a Successful Rehabilitation Program are:
Skillful rehabilitation is an art, it cannot be replaced by the 'recipe' or 'band-aid' approach
- Explanation and Education - give realistic approximate timeframes of rehabilitation. Utilise Goal setting and explain program rationale.
- Provide precise exercise prescription - emphasise correct exercise technique, including biomechanics and progression
- Utilise available facilities - home and fitness centre based exercises
- Begin ASAP - control pain and inflammation. Work on uninjured areas, beginn functional activity ASAP
What You can Expect from a Session:
Initial Assessment - a detailed injury history is documented. You will undergo a comprehensive assessment of mobility and strength. You will recieve an Exercise Prescription of several stretches and several exercises to be performed at home, work or the gym. You will also be advised of approximate timelines for rehabilitation and the approximate number of sessions required to return to full function.
Ongoing Sessions - you may be re-assessed for mobility and your exercises will be reviewed. You will be prescribed progressions of the original exercises or a different, progressively more difficult exercise.
At all times the emphasis is on performing all stretches and exercises with excellent technique. This will assist the body in gaining mobility and strengthening as a balanced functional unit.
